Calendar leaf from Sforza Hours
[Whole leaf] Calendar page from October. A man and woman riding with hawks, the woman having already released her bird. The lifelike rendering of the two horses probably reflects the contemporary work of Leonardo da Vinci at Milan on the equestrian monument of Francesco Sforza. In the background, scenes of wine-making; a man carries a basket of grapes on his back, as others crush the grapes in a vat. Produced for Bona Sforza, widow of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan Image taken from Sforza Hours. Originally published/produced in N. Italy [Milan]; circa 1490.
