Psalm 51; girl bathing
[Whole folio] End of Psalm 50. Psalm 51 beginning with initial 'Q', a nimbed figure pulling with pincers the tongue of a seated man. Border decoration with small animal grotesque in the upper margin. In the lower margin, a nimbed naked young woman bathes in a wooden tub, assisted by an older woman. It is perhaps an episode from the girlhood of the Virgin, in which she is cleansed in preparation for her redemptive role, aided by her mother, St Anne Image taken from Luttrell Psalter. Originally published/produced in England [East Anglia]; circa 1325-1335.
